Abstract

Introduction: The number and quality of published articles in scientific journals is one indicator of evaluation of faculty members and the research output of universities of medical sciences. This study was designed to evaluate the quantity and quality of published articles in the Journal of Knowledge and Health.

Methods: This descriptive study was conducted by census sampling. Twenty-three articles from the years 1386 - 1391 were investigated. A researcher-made checklist including: authors and titles, introduction, methods, results, discussion, references, overviews, abstract, cohort study and clinical trial were designed. Descriptive statistics and test methods were used for data presentation and comparison.

Results: One hundred and seventy one articles were evaluated, and the average number of articles per issue was 7.5 ± 2 articles. The average time spent from receiving a paper until its acceptance is 4 months. All articles had been obtained from the original research work, and no review article or letters to the editor was found on the issues. There were ten randomized clinical trial studies. The most complete  part of articles were titles and references also were most correct unit, while the weakest part of the them was discussion.

Conclusion: Results obtained from the study of journal of Knowledge and Health indicated that the journal has progressed in terms of quality over the years, but there were some shortcomings. Therefore, a set of recommendations is provided to improve the journal.
